In 1968 when George Mills was selected to become the head basketball coach at Linden McKinley High School, history was made. He was the first African American to reach the level of head basketball coach at a Columbus Public School. George served in that capacity from 1968 thru 1974. George was a lover of basketball as he had played basketball in high school and had spent the majority of his time in the service in special services, entertaining the troops in France and Spain playing ball. After the service, he enrolled in West Virginia State College where he played varsity basketball and served as team captain.  Rest In Peace, Coach Mills!
